Ethics and Editorial Policies

 | Post date: 2022/01/16 |

Physiology and Pharmacology is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity and transparency in the content published, and strictly adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Elsevier’s Publishing Ethics. Physiology and Pharmacology also endorses the recommendations provided by the Council of Science Editors  (CSE), and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
To ensure a fair and substantive assessment of submissions, Physiology and Pharmacology follow a double-blind peer review process. Every submitted manuscript within the scope of the journal will be reviewed by two or more specialists in the area of the submission. Physiology and Pharmacology reserve the right to reject a paper even after it has been accepted if it becomes apparent that there are serious problems with its scientific content, or its publishing policies have been violated.
Reviewers and authors are encouraged to study the journal’s ethics and editorial principles and abide by them:

Submission policies

When you submit a manuscript to Physiology and Pharmacology, we will take it to imply that the manuscript has not already been published or submitted elsewhere. You may not submit your manuscript elsewhere while it is under consideration at Physiology and Pharmacology.
Submitting a manuscript to Physiology and Pharmacology implies that all contributors listed as authors have read and agreed to the content of the submitted work and that the submission observes the policies of the journal.

Authorship policies

Each author listed in the manuscript is expected to have made substantial contributions in research process and manuscript creation. A contribution statement according to Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) needs to be submitted together with the manuscript where the role per author is described. This information is not currently published together with the article full text. Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be mentioned in the Acknowledgements. It is expected that those being acknowledged have given their permission to be named.
Submission to Physiology and Pharmacology is taken by the journal to mean that all the listed authors have agreed all of the contents, including the author list and author contribution statements. All authors are responsible for scientific and ethical accuracy of the manuscript. Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. The corresponding author is responsible for having ensured that this agreement has been reached that all authors have agreed to be so listed, and have approved the manuscript submission to the journal. The corresponding author is responsible for managing all communication between the journal and all co-authors, before and after publication, and should submit the Author Agreement Form signed by all co-authors along with manuscript submission.
The primary affiliation for each author should be the institution where the majority of their work was done. If an author has subsequently moved, the current address may also be stated. Physiology and Pharmacology remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in institutional affiliations.
Any rearrangement, deletion or inclusion of authors might be requested only before the manuscript acceptance and will be effective if approved by the journal editor. To request such a change, a formal declaration from the corresponding author needs to be submitted to the editorial office, containing the reason for the change in author list in detail and written confirmation (academic e-mail, signed letter) from all authors that they agree with the changes. In the case of addition or removal of authors, the confirmation from the author being added or removed is also necessary. Only in exceptional circumstances will the editor consider the addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors after the manuscript has been accepted. While the editor considers the request, publication of the manuscript will be suspended. If the manuscript has already been published in an online issue, any requests approved by the editor will result in a corrigendum.

Competing interests

Authors must disclose any competing financial and/or non-financial interests in relation to the work described, even when they are confident that their judgments have not been influenced in preparing the manuscript. Statements on competing interests have no influence on the editorial decision to publish.
Examples of financial competing interests: (a) Financial research support by organizations (including salaries, equipment, supplies, and other expenses) that may gain or lose financially through this publication. A specific role for the funder in the creation of the manuscript should be disclosed. (b) Employment (while engaged in the research project or anticipated) by any organization that may gain or lose financially through this publication. (c) Personal financial interests including consultancies, stock ownership and patent applications/registrations that may gain or lose financially through publication. Non-financial competing interests can take different forms, including personal or professional relations with organizations and individuals.

The corresponding author is responsible for submitting the conflict of interest declaration along with manuscript submission. Please refer to the Author Agreement Form.

Excessive self-citation, coordinated efforts among several authors to collectively self-cite, and any other form of citation manipulation are in appropriate and will result in the manuscript being rejected.

Preprint sharing
Preprints are defined as an author’s version of a research manuscript prior to formal peer review at a journal, which is deposited on a public server (as described in Preprints for the life sciences. Science 352, 899–901; 2016); preprints may be posted at any time during the peer review process.
Posting of preprints is not considered prior publication and will not jeopardize consideration at Physiology and Pharmacology.
Authors should disclose details of preprint posting, including DOI and licensing terms, upon submission of the manuscript or at any other point during consideration at Physiology and Pharmacology. Once the preprint is published, it is the author’s responsibility to ensure that the preprint record is updated with a publication reference, including the DOI and a URL link to the published version of the article on the journal website.
Plagiarism as defined by ORI (Office of Research Integrity) imply the “theft or misappropriation of intellectual property and the substantial unattributed textual copying of another's work". Physiology and Pharmacology does not accept for consideration the manuscripts in which plagiarism is found. Authors must check their manuscript regarding plagiarism by the specialized service iThenticate and submit the similarity report file, along with manuscript submission. The manuscript will be considered for peer review process only if the similarity index be less than 20%.
The journal may use plagiarism detection software to screen the submissions at any point of processing. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism in a submitted manuscript or in a published article will be followed.
Duplicate publication is defined as submitting or publishing the same article, in more than one journal or using substantial parts of a previously published work without appropriate credit and citation. All manuscript submitted to Physiology and Pharmacology must be original and the manuscript, or substantial parts of it, must not has been published before or be under consideration by any other journal. Any cases of duplicate manuscript submission/publication will be handled as outlined in the COPE guidelines on duplicate publication in a submitted manuscript or in a published article and the editor may contact the authors’ institution.
The authors need to declare the sources of financial support for the conduct of the work submitted to Physiology and Pharmacology. It should be identified if the study funder(s) play a role in the study design; data collection, analysis and interpretation; writing of the manuscript; and decision to submit it for publication.
All manuscript submitted to Physiology and Pharmacology are initially checked by the editorial office to ensure that the submission has been properly completed and meets all the journal's technical requirements. The completed submissions will be assessed by the editor who decides whether they are in the scope of the journal and suitable for peer review. Every submitted manuscript, within the scope of the journal, will be sent for peer review to at least two appropriate independent experts. The journal follows a double-blind peer review process, where both referees and authors remain anonymous throughout the review process. Finally, the journal editor evaluates the peer reviewers' reports and makes the final decision to accept or reject the manuscript for publication or send it back to authors for revision.
Where the editor is on the author list or has any competing interest in a specific manuscript, a senior member of the editorial board will be assigned to evaluate peer review and make decision.

Authors, readers or organizations who become aware of ethics issues or errors which affect the scientific integrity of the published article, are encouraged to contact the editorial office. Should the authors wish to add new material to their accepted article, they must submit a request to the editor and the new content will be reviewed, as a new manuscript. The editor determines the impact of the change and decides on the publication of the addendum, erratum or corrigendum. Addendum/erratum/corrigendum will be published with the title of “Addendum /Erratum/Corrigendum to [original article title]” in the paginated part of a subsequent issue of the journal.
In cases of infringements of publication ethics such as unethical research, unreliable data or findings, plagiarism, multiple submissions, claims of authorship, or the like, article retraction is mandatory. Articles may be retracted by their authors or by the journal editor, or jointly. Retractions will be published with the title of “Retraction Note to: [article title]” describing the reason for retraction, in the paginated part of a subsequent issue of the journal.
