	<title>The pathophysiological signaling and efficacy of medicinal herbal compounds in Alzheimer’s disease</title>

	<abstract>Alzheimer&#8217;s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with a high prevalence worldwide. It is associated with annoying and debilitating cognitive and memory deficits. For many years, various herbs have been consumed to boost memory and other dementia-related complications. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory, antioxidant properties, and neuroprotective effects of medicinal plants have broadened their application in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Among them, compounds of T. grandiflora, including the methanol extract, depicted antioxidant and hydroxy radical scavenging properties. Likewise, Zingiber officinale and resveratrol have been suggested to demonstrate a neuroprotective effect. Besides, there is a long list of herbal medicines with AChE inhibitory action listed as follows: T. grandiflora, A. paniculata, S. officinalis, G. nivalis, A. calamus, N. jatamansi, M. Allem&#227;o, C. sativum, C. tubulosa, and silymarin a flavonoid derived from Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. Moreover, Ginkgo biloba L., Curcuma longa L, and natural bioactive compounds including silymarin, and resveratrol, can inhibit the formation and progression of amyloid-beta (A&#946;), increase synaptic accumulation of acetylcholine, modulate the degree of tau protein phosphorylation, provide oxidative stress protection, and attenuate neuroinflammation. Herbal compounds involved in AD signaling pathways could affect various pathological processes related to AD and may be beneficial for AD treatment. 	<title>Unveiling the Cardiovascular Impact of Growth Hormone: Insights into Physiology, Pathology, and Therapy</title>

	<abstract>The significance of height in boosting self-confidence has prompted some families to seek medical interventions to enhance their children&#8217;s stature. One such intervention is hormone therapy using recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH), which has been employed in clinics since 1985, primarily for treating growth hormone deficiency (GHD). Over time, rhGH therapy has been utilized for various conditions where childhood short stature is not solely a result of inadequate growth hormone secretion, such as small for gestational age (SGA) or idiopathic short stature (ISS). In addition to its effects on the skeletal system, growth hormone (GH) also plays a vital role in regulating cardiovascular function. There is growing evidence suggesting a correlation between abnormal GH levels&#8212;both elevated and deficient&#8212;and increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality among patients with GH disorder. Notably, cardiovascular complications are not limited to pathological GH levels; even slight increases within the normal range have been linked to increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in healthy individuals. These findings raise concerns about the potential long-term cardiovascular effects of rhGH therapy, especially among children without GH disorders. In this comprehensive review, we summarized recent research findings to provide insights into the physiological and pathophysiological effects of GH on the heart. We aimed to elucidate the long-term side effects of GH therapy and identify associated risk factors.</abstract>

	<title>Construction and evaluation of different glioblastoma prognosis scores based on gene expression databases</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor, and the prognosis of GBM pa-tients is unfavorable. More studies are needed to develop new prognostic tools for predicting GBM patients&#8217; prognosis. This study aims to construct generisk score (GRS) models based on gene expression databases. 

Methods: Genomic data of GBM were downloaded from the CGGA, TCGA, MYO, and CPTAC. Patients were divided into two groups with overall survival (OS) of more or less than 15 months. Top 31 genes from our previous study and clinical data such as age, gender, and IDH wildtype/mutant were used to develop two GRS models. Cox methods in SPSS v26 were applied in this study.

Results: A total of 551 (334 male, mean age 55.5 &#177; 13.3 years) cases were used. Fourgene (TGFB1, CCL2, CD274, and TNFRSF1A; from the combination of four databases) and eight-gene (EGFR, TGFB1, SPP1, AGT, TNFRSF1A, CDK1, FOXO3, and CEP55; from CGGA) risk scores were developed. Two models could separate OS samples into high and low-risk groups, and AUCs of 0.984 and, 0.998 were achieved that showed excellent discriminating power at the training set (all: p&#8201;&#60;&#8201;0.0001). For the 8-GRS model, the OS of cases in the high-risk group was poorer than that in the low-risk group when used on another&#8217;s datasets at the validation set, however, it was not significant. 

Conclusion: Four- and eight-gene prognostic signatures were identified and constructed to predict OS in GBM patients. This study may provide innovative insights into the treatment of GBM.

	<title>Protective effects of Pistacia Atlantica leaves hydroalcoholic extract against acetic acid-induced colitis damage in rats</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in which the role of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress in its underlying pathogenesis has come into focus. Pistacia Atlantica (P. atlantica) is used in traditional Persian medicine for the management of gastrointestinal disorders. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the protective effects of hydroalcoholic extract of P. atlantica leaves on acetic acid-induced UC in a rat model. 

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to six groups: normal, colitis by transrectal administration of 4% acetic acid, colitis + sulfasalazine (sulfa, 500 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally (i.p.)), and colitis + P. atlantica leaves hydroalcoholic extract (at 50, 100, 200 mg/kg/day doses). P. atlantica was administered via oral gavage for 3 consecutive days. After 7 days, colons were resected for macroscopic damage score and histopathological assessment. Furthermore, antioxidant status and inflammatory markers were measured in the serum. 

Results: Macroscopic and histopathological analysis of the mucosa showed that P. atlantica significantly alleviated colonic damage in a concentration-dependent manner (P&#60;0.001 to P&#60; 0.01). Importantly, in the group treated with P. atlantica, there was a significant reduction in serum nitric oxide (NO) levels (P&#60;0.001), along with restoration of antioxidant systems, as indicated by increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and glutathione (GSH) levels, compared to the colitis rats (P&#60;0.001). 

Conclusion: These findings indicate the therapeutic potential of P. atlantica leaves in alleviating the severity of colitis in rats by suppressing inflammation and oxidative states in the serum, which could be used as an appropriate drug for the management of UC.</abstract>

	<title>Evaluation of the cardiovascular effect of GABAB receptor of the Pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus (PPT) in anesthetized rats</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: The cardiovascular effect of the pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus (PPT), a mesencephalic area, has been evaluated. Due to the presence of the GABAB receptor of GABAergic system in the PPT, this study has investigated the possible cardiovascular effect of this receptor in the PPT and has compared it with GABAA. 

Methods: Rats randomly were divided into control, two doses of 0.5 and 1 nmol of Baclofen (GABAB receptor agonist), 0.5 and 1 nmol, of Phaclofen (GABAB receptor antagonist) and two doses of 0.1 and 0.2 nmol of Bicuculline (BMI, GABAA receptor antagonist) and co-injection of Phaclofen (1nmol)+ Bicuculline (0.2 nmol) groups. After anesthesia, a heparinized polyethylene catheter was placed in the femoral artery and was connected to a pressure transducer cardiovascular response was recorded by a Power lab device. Then the systolic blood pressure (SBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were continuously recorded. The injection of drugs into the PPT was done stereotaxically. Cardiovascular changes (&#916;,difference between pre and post-injection) induced by drug were calculated and analyzed. 

Results: Injection of both doses of Baclofen and Phaclofen did not induce significant changes in MAP, SBP, and HR. Injection of both doses of BMI significantly increased &#916;MAP, &#916;SBP, and &#916;HR than control group. Injection of Phaclofen (1nmol) and BMI (0.2 nmol) could increase &#916;MAP, &#916;SBP, and &#916;HR that was non-significant than Phaclofen alone. 

Conclusion: We found that GABAB receptors of the PPT were not involved in cardiovascular activity and this effect was mainly mediated through GABAA receptors.</abstract>

	<title>The effects of oxytocin on anxiety and depression in the prenatal stress context in 3-NP injected rats</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: Oxytocin (OXT) has attracted attention as an effective treatment for anxiety and depression. It also can prevent 3-NP-induced anxiety and depression. However, the effects of OXT can be context-dependent. The objective of this investigation was to explore how prenatal stress (PS) context modulates the effectiveness of OXT in mitigating anxiety-and depression-like behaviors induced by 3-NP, as well as alterations in antioxidant levels. 

Methods: The dams underwent PS or PS+3NP treatments, and the effects of OXT on the anxiety-like behavior, and depression-like behavior in these treatment groups were evaluated via elevated plus maze and forced swim test respectively. The reduced glutathione (GSH) level was also measured in the striatum, hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and amygdala. 

Results: We found that PS per se and 3-NP in the context of PS increased anxiety and depression. These groups also had lower GSH levels in the brain regions examined. OXT pretreatment markedly increased the behavioral changes in the PS group and ameliorated the antioxidant changes. However, OXT pretreatment could not improve 3-NP-induced behavioral and GSH level changes in the context of PS. 

Conclusion: These findings indicate that OXT improves PS-induced anxiety and depression and the antioxidant level changes, but we found that PS per se thwarts the protective effects of OXT in the 3-NP-induced anxiety and depression</abstract>

	<title>Upregulation of heat shock proteins 70 and 90 induced by transient scrotal hyperthermia in mice</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: It is now accepted that scrotal heat stress could adversely affect spermatogenesis. This high thermal condition can cause a reduced male fertility potential. Nowadays, insufficient research exists on the impact of transient scrotal hyperthermia on heat shock proteins 70 and 90 in murine subjects. In the current study, we investigated the effects of scrotal hyperthermia on the expression of heat shock proteins, stereological parameters, and semen quality in mice. 

Methods: In this examination, a total of 18 healthy adult male NMRI mice were divided equally into two groups: control and scrotal hyperthermia. Scrotal heat stress was induced by placing the lower parts of mice bodies into the water bath for three consecutive days (43&#176;C, 20 min/day). Then, epididymis and testicular samples were collected for evaluation of sperm parameters, stereological study, mRNA, and protein expression of HSP70 and HSP90. 

Results: Our results revealed that scrotal hyperthermia could strikingly increase the level of mRNA and protein expression of HSP70 and HSP90 in the samples. In addition, stereological parameters and semen quality significantly decreased in transient scrotal hyperthermia-induced mice compared to the control group. 

Conclusion: Our research indicates that transient hyperthermia on the scrotum can lead to increased expression of HSP70 and HSP90 at both mRNA and protein levels, subsequently affecting male fertility.</abstract>

	<title>In vivo study of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of metabiotic extracted from Lactobacillus acidophilus BF-P-064 in Ethanol-induced peptic ulcer</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: Metabiotics are promising candidates for peptic ulcer (PU) healing by regulating the expression of pro-inflammatory genes and antioxidant capacity. 

Methods: We prepared a metabiotic by culturing Lactobacillus acidophilus BF-P-064 and evaluated its cytotoxicity and antioxidant properties by MTT and DPPH (&#945;-diphenyl-&#946;-picrylhydrazyl) methods. To investigate the potential of PU healing, we divided 45 rats into 3 groups and induced PU by administering ethanol. The negative-control group was not treated, while the positive-control and metabiotic groups received treatment with a drug and a metabiotic. On different days, the wound area was determined and the histopathological characteristics were evaluated by H&#38;E staining. The expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, PDGF, VEGF, EGF, TGF-&#946;, and TNF-&#945;) and antioxidant (SOD and GPx) genes was assayed by qRT-PCR method. 

Results: Our results showed that the metabiotic, at a concentration of 60 mg/mL, had no cytotoxic effects on the CaCo2 cell line, and its antioxidant capacity was 72.49 u/mL. The metabiotic caused faster wound contraction by accelerating the infiltration of phagocytic cells, which intensified the inflammatory phase. By increasing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as enhancing antioxidant properties and the expression of SOD and GPx, the metabiotic prevented the induction of oxidative stress in the tissue. So, the proliferation phase started faster, and the healing process improved. 

Conclusion: The metabiotic extracted from L. acidophilus BF-P-064 can improve the healing process of PU by increasing the antioxidant capacity, improving the pattern of cell infiltration, and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine</abstract>

	<title>Impaired respiratory control system adaptability in patients with COPD: Evidence from complexity analysis of oxygen saturation variability</title>

	<abstract>Introduction: People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often experience exacerbations and impaired gas exchange, leading to hypoxemia that may require hospitalization. Pattern analysis of capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) variability can provide valuable insight into the adaptive capacity of the respiratory control system under this condition. Therefore, this study tested the hypothesis that the adaptability of the respiratory control system is reduced in patients with COPD. 

Methods: In this study, we utilized entropy and fractal-like correlation properties of SpO2 time series in patients with COPD. We analyzed pulse oximetry data from 13 patients with COPD during hospitalization and discharge time and compared them to 16 age- and sex-matched control subjects. SpO2 variability analysis of a 25-minute time series was performed using sample entropy, multiscale entropy, and detrended fluctuation analysis. 

Results: Entropy analysis revealed a complex pattern of SpO2 variability in healthy controls and patients with COPD. Both short-term (&#945;1) and long-term fractal-like exponent (&#945;2) were higher in patients with COPD compared to healthy controls. SpO2 entropy and mean were significantly lower in patients with COPD in comparison with controls. There was no statistically significant difference in SpO2 complexity measures between the hospitalization and discharge phases in these patients.

Conclusion: The respiratory control system in patients with COPD exhibits less complexity and information processing. These non-invasive analytical methods have the potential for future clinical application to monitor the integrity of respiratory control in individuals suffering from chronic respiratory diseases.</abstract>
